Robert E. (Bob) Rueter, 74, of Shumway, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026 at home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born September 28, 1951, in Flora, IL, the son of Robert F. and Elsie (Ashley) Rueter. Bob was an artist, photographer, musician, and a die-hard Bears fan. He spent many years as an active member of the Elks Club, proudly serving his community. Known for his playful sense of humor and natural charm, he enjoyed family, time in nature, and a good game of backgammon. He was a great listener and a wonderful storyteller.

Bob is survived by his children, Stacie (Rueter) Bowman (husband John), Angie Rueter-Verts (husband Bill), Andy Rueter (wife Sarah), Kaycie Metzelaars (husband Erich), Mark Rueter (fiancé Lindsay), and Nick Rueter (wife Brooke); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Rick and Kevin Rueter; and his sisters, Karen Rueter and Brenda Bremmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Elsie Rueter; grandchildren, Trevor Michael and Ocean Savannah; and brother, Gene Higgs.
