 Junior High Boys Basketball Regionals — January 17 Scores

Seventh-grade boys basketball regionals begin Saturday around the area.

Following are the regionals with scores:

 

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Sigel St. Michael claimed a victory in its own regional Saturday.

The Sharpshooters handed Mulberry Grove a 33-16 loss.

Altamont Lutheran then easily defeated Ramsey, 46-17.

Sigel St. Michael will now face top-seeded Pana Sacred Heart tonight at 6.

In the second game, second-seeded Newton St. Thomas will take on Altamont Lutheran at 7:15.

 

Class 7-1A Martinsville Regional

Philo St. Thomas was a 32-16 winner over Mattoon in the opener.

The second game went to Hume Shiloh over Windsor, 56-27.

Martinsville then edged Chrisman Scottland, 29-23.

Top-seeded Kansas will face Philo St. Thomas at 6 p.m. today while Hume Shiloh and Martinsville square off at 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 7-2A North Clay Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Stewardson-Strasburg and St. Elmo/Brownstown all advanced in the North Clay Regional.

In the opener Saturday, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged North Clay, 30-29. CHBC moved into an 11-10 opening quarter lead but North Clay came back to take the lead 17-13 at halftime.

CHBC then had a 17-12 second half to edge North Clay, 30-29.

Tyce Kircher led the win with 10 points while Luke Roadarmel and Braxton Goeckner had six each.

North Clay was led by L. Boose with nine and Keller with eight.

The second contest went to Stewardson-Strasburg over South Central 42-31.

South Central ran out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead but Stew-Stras came back with a 15-6 second period and held South Central scoreless in the third quarter to lead 36-25 going into the final period.

Stew-Stras was led by Ashmore and Hille with 12 points each. The team is now 16-6 on the season.

South Central’s Hall also had 12 points.

St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Altamont 44-13. SEB went out to an 11-2 opening quarter lead as Schaub scored seven points. SEB held a 17-6 halftime tally.

SEB then had a 13-4 third quarter surge as Morrison nailed two three-pointers and Wilhour put in a regular basket and a three for five.

Schaub finished with 12 points while Morrison and Wilhour added 11 each for the winners.

Altamont was led by Pierce with eight.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will meet Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday at 5 p.m. followed by Stewardson-Strasburg against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6:15.

Class 7-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Dieterich advances in the opening round with a 44-13 victory over Hutsonville Saturday.

Dieterich will face the winner of the Neoga vs. Oblong contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Class 7-3A Marshall Regional

Teutopolis was a big winner over Cumberland in the opening game of the Marshall Regional Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes pounded Cumberland 66-6. The Shoes led 40-2 at halftime.

Charlie Koester and Dylan Deters led the Shoes with 11 points each.

Cumberland was led by Green, Dittamore and Swingler with two each.

In the second game, Paris Mayo defeated Jasper County 48-32. Jasper County held an 8-6 opening quarter lead but Paris Mayo came on to tie the score at 17-17 at halftime.

Mayo then had a 31-15 second half for the victory.

Jasper County was led by Cash Collins with 16.

Paris Mayo’s leading scorers were Phillip Williams with 21 and Liem Eveland with 13.

Jasper County finishes the seventh-grade season with a 9-10 record.

Class 7-3A Marshall Regional

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham saw its season come to a close in the Taylorville Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs fell to Mattoon by a 50-8 count in the second game of the day.

In the opener, Taylorville won over Stephen Decatur, 45-23.

Taylorville advanced to meet Mount Zion and lost, 40-13.

In the fourth game of the day, Mattoon won over Rochester, 40-34.

Mount Zion and Mattoon will now meet for the championship today at 5:30 p.m.
