 Cumberland To Play For Title at Vandalia, WSS Wins at Tri-County, Altamont Fourth at Sesser, Neoga Falls At Monticello

VANDALIA — Cumberland High School will be playing for the 53rd Annual Vandalia Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament title after claiming a victory over Greenville Monday evening.

The Pirates put this game away early, taking a 27-4 first quarter lead and leading 37-15 at halftime.

Reed Miller put in six points in the opening quarter and finished with 19 to lead the way. He connected on nine field goals and one of two at the line.

Also in double figures were Cameron Roedl with 16 and Chase Stewart with 12.

The Pirates connected on 10 three-pointers. Roedl hit three while Kade McMechan, Miller, Kaleb Bierman and Zack Harmon hit two each.

In other games Monday, Shelbyville defeated Nokomis 44-35, Flora won over Meridian 53-25 and Vandalia downed Pana 75-65.

Today’s contests will have Cumberland facing Vandalia at 7 p.m. for the championship. Pana meets Greenville at 5:30 p.m for third place.

Shelbyville and Flora square off at 4 p.m. for fifth place and Macon Meridian and Nokomis meet at 2:30 for seventh place.

At Kansas

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg captured a victory Monday at the Tri-County Holiday Tournament.

The Hatchets won over Martinsville easily 64-33.

WIndsor/Stew-Stras ran out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead and led 29-16 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hatchets had a 24-11 third period and finished out with an 11-6 final quarter.

Wyatt Wetherell led the way with 20 points on seven field goals, that included six three-pointers. Brody Bible chipped in with 16 while Aiden Sayers added 10.

Westville was a 65-35 winner over Tri-County. Paris played Chrisman and no score was listed.

Today’s schedule includes Paris vs. Westville at 10 a.m., Tri-County vs. Martinsville at 11:30, Chrisman vs. Windsor/Stew-Stras at 1 p.m., Martinsville vs. Paris at 2:30, Westville vs. Chrisman at 4 and Windsor/Stew-Stras against Tri-County at 5:30.

At Sesser

Altamont fell to DuQuoin by a close 67-64 count in the third place game at the Sesser-Valier Tournament Monday.

Altamont moved into a 16-10 opening quarter lead as Kade Milleville hit two three-pointers, a regular basket and was three of four at the line for 11. Cooper McManaway put in a three-pointer.

DuQuoin came back with a 22-15 second period to lead 32-31 at halftime.

DuQuoin then had a 19-17 third period and the two teams played even in the final quarter.

Three players finished in double figures for Altamont. K. Milleville hit seven field goals, three from beyond the arc, and was five of eight at th line for 22. McManaway added 16 and Parker Bell 11.

Goreville edged Waltovnille 40-39 for the championship. New Athens beat Red Bud 65-63 for the consolation championship and Sesser-Valier won over Marissa 58-49 for seventh place.

At Monticello

Neoga lost the seventh-place game at the Monticello Holiday Hoopla Tournament Monday evening.

Neoga fell to Fithian Oakwood by a 62-51 score.

Neoga led 19-16 after the opening quarter but Fithian Oakwood moved into a 34-30 halftime lead.

Both teams scored nine in the third quarter and Oakwood finished with a 19-12 final period.

Neoga was led by Kaden Bryant with 21 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of three at the free throw line. Also in double figures was Brayden Ray with 12. Ray led the team in rebounds with 15.
