Jasper County board members have received an estimate for carpeting for the Health Department Annex. The building was previously used as the temporary location of the sheriff’s office during the construction of the new sheriff’s office and jail in Newton. The plan is to use the building as the temporary location for the Jasper County Circuit Clerk’s Office, Jasper County State’s Attorney’s Office, and Jasper County Probation Department during the construction of the new Courthouse. The carpeting work was approved for just under $11,000.

The Board approved the fiscal year tax levy at just under $3.6 million, which is less than was approved in 2021. Meanwhile, mechanical blueprints are being developed for the new courthouse. Ground bore testing is planned in January.

Board members heard that Multi Township Assessor Jolyn Bigard took a new job, not allowing her to complete the job. Pam Burnell is filling the position. Also, Ron Heltsley was reappointed to a three-year term on the Jasper County Board of Health, and Mike Hall was appointed Jasper County representative to the Southeastern Illinois Economic Development Authority.
