 Effingham Falls To Rockets, Golden Aces, Altamont Downs Mt. Carmel In Boys Basketball

Effingham High School played host to Tolono Unity in boys basketball action Tuesday evening and fell to the visitors, 66-57.

Tolono Unity took a 20-13 opening quarter lead. But the Hearts rallied back with a 19-11 second quarter to lead 32-31 at halftime.

Jenner Pals went on a run, scoring three regular baskets, a three-pointer and was two of two at the line for 11 points. Jude Traub chipped in with five points.

But Tolono Unity came out after halftime and had a 16-11 run to lead 47-43 heading into the final quarter. The Rockets finished with a 19-14 run, connecting on five baskets and nine of 12 from the free throw line.

Effingham had two players hit double figures. Pals finished with 15 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line. Traub tallied 10.

In a game Saturday at Mount Carmel, the Golden Aces won over Effingham 57-45.

The Aces moved into a 12-8 opening quarter lead. But the Hearts came back to knot the score at 25-25 at halftime.

Mount Carmel came back with a 16-14 third period to move ahead 41-39 then had a 14-6 final period.

Meador led Mount Carmel with 28 points on five field goals, three from beyond the arc, and 15 of 16 at the line.

Effingham was led by Cannon Bockhorn with 10 points on four field goals, two from three-point range. Pals chipped in with nine.

At Altamont

Altamont High School played host to Cisne and sent the Lions home with a 70-36 loss Monday evening in boys basketball.

Parker Bell and Zaine Miller got the Indians off in the right direction, each scoring two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight in the 25-10 opening quarter run.

The Indians had an 11-9 second period as Cooper Pals put in five points and the lead went to 36-19 at halftime.

Altamont’s Bell went on a third quarter run, hitting three trifectas and a regular basket for 11 points and a 19-9 run.

Bell led four players in double figures for Altamont. He hit two regular baskets and six three-pointers for 22. Cooper McManaway added 12, Kade Milleville 11 and Miller 11.

The Indians improved to 7-5 on the season.

Altamont was a 64-37 winner in junior varsity play. Nate Lurkins scored 17 for the winners while Kaiden Wolff added 15 and Carson Milleville 11.
