Teutopolis school board members Monday awarded the bid for renovation and new construction work at the junior high building. The project is to accommodate the relocation of sixth grade classes from the grade school to the junior high building for the 2026-2027 school year. Also a part of the project is renovation of the restrooms at the junior high building.
The base bid and alternate bid went to lowest responsible bidder AKRA Builders for $1,685,455. Teutopolis Superintendent Matt Sturgeon said the project “will help the district better meet the needs of its growing student population and set the stage for a long-term facility improvement initiative at Teutopolis Grade School.” Sturgeon said the new construction could begin in January and the renovation of the restrooms could begin in May.
The new construction will extend along the current instructional hallway off the northwest corner of the junior high building.
Also Monday, the Teutopolis board approved the fiscal year tax levy; and heard that the Superintendent evaluation and Board self-evaluation have been scheduled for January.
Sturgeon also shared that “A Clear View Ahead” Microsite is pending release in January and is intended to share verified information about our school facilities, the studies now underway, and the process the Board of Education is following to evaluate next steps at the grade school. He said the “Sharing the Pride and Purpose” Stories Series releases continue as a means of telling “the celebratory stories of Teutopolis Schools”.
The Board accepted the irrevocable resignation of Allison Deters as high school girls tennis coach and a retirement letter for Kim Beckman as of the end of 2028-2029. Hired for this school year was Danielle Probst for 7th grade volleyball.
