Effingham fell to Flora in both freshman/sophomore A and B games Saturday.

Flora was a 54-49 winner in the A contest. Flora edged out to a 15-12 opening quarter lead and held that same three-point lead at halftime 29-26.

Flora again remained ahead by three at the end of the third quarter and finished out with the win.

Westjohn led Effingham with 14 points.

In the B contest, Flora won 56-42.

Flora led 27-22 at halftime and 41-30 going into the final quarter.

Effingham was led in scoring by Jones with 10 and Hodges with 10.

Effingham hosted Mount Zion Monday and lost in a freshman/sophomore contest, 70-60. Hodges led the Hearts with 12 and Loew added 11.

At Vandalia

Effingham St. Anthony won a freshman/sophomore contest over Vandalia Monday evening by a 53-22 count.

Vandalia edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead. But the Bulldogs came roaring back with a 22-3 second period to lead 28-10 at halftime. St. Anthony had a 20-6 third period.

Eleven players scored for St. Anthony. Charlie Bierman led the way with 10 points. Mason Storm added eight and Curtis Tingley seven.
