The Effingham County Board’s Tax and Finance Committee Thursday heard a proposal for funding to help pay for a beach expansion at Lake Sara.

Christo Schultz is part of the Lake Sara Forever group that has helped oversee beach improvements in recent years. Schultz said $100,000 has been raised for the project, but another $25,000 is needed to cover the final cost. He is hopeful the County Board will help close the gap in funding.

Schultz approached the request for funding from a tourism angle. Board Vice-Chairman Dave Campbell reminded that most of the revenue generated comes from venues at the lake.

Meanwhile, Becky Brown from the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce reminded of the benefits generated by Chamber membership. The request for $3,275 is being forwarded to the full County Board for action at Monday’s meeting, as is a $15,000 request from the Effingham County Committee on Aging for senior services.

The Board also agreed to changes in pay for employees of the State’s Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office to correspond with budgeted amounts, and heard an update from Casey Kemme of Extension on their activities.
