 Girls Junior High Basketball Regional Scores — December 4

Girls eighth-grade basketball regionals continued Thursday evening. Following are the regional scores and statistics.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Sigel St. Michael was a 35-26 winner over Mattoon St. John’s in the opening contest.

In the second game, Neoga won over Pana St. Pat’s 36-31.

The two teams were tied at 9-9 in the opening quarter. Neoga moved into a 16-13 halftime lead.

Both teams scored 10 in the third quarter and Neoga had a 10-8 final period for the victory.

Bliss Bear led the way in scoring with 19 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line. Kinsey Bell chipped in with eight.

Sigel St. Michael and Neoga will meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Effingham St. Anthony advanced to the championship game of the Casey-Westfield Regional with a victory Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won over Paris Crestwood by a 27-17 tally.

St. Anthony moved into a 10-4 opening quarter lead as five players scored in the quarter.

Casey-Westfield came back within a 12-10 tally in the second quarter.

St. Anthony then had a 12-7 second half run. B. Schultz led the way with 14 points on five field goals and four free throws.

In the second contest, Cumberland downed Casey-Westfield 27-21.

St. Anthony and Cumberland meet today at 5 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Class 8-2A South Central Regional

Dieterich and Albion claimed victories to move into the championship game of the South Central Regional.

Dieterich won the opener over host South Central 35-30.

The two teams were tied at 10-10 in the opening quarter. Dieterich then moved into a 19-15 halftime lead as Emery Bill and Emma Williams hit a three-pointer each and Ava Benefiel connected for an old-fashioned three-point play with a basket and a free throw.

The two teams played to a 7-7 third quarter and Dieterich then had a 9-8 final period for the winning margin.

Kreke led Dieterich as the lone player in double figures with 11.

South Central was led by Skylar Webster with 17 on seven field goals and three free throws.

In the second contest, Albion easily handled Altamont by a 39-8 tally.

Altamont scored only one point in the opening half, a free throw from Suckow. They had a seven point second half as Teasley hit two baskets in the fourth quarter.

Teasley finished with four while Burrus added two.

Class 8-3A Lawrenceville Parkview Regional

Jasper County saw its season come to a close at the Lawrenceville Parkview Regional Thursday.

Robinson Nuttall handed Jasper County a 36-27 loss.

In the opener, Red Hill (Bridgeport) won over Marshall, 48-37.

Red Hill will face Lawrenceville Parkview today at 6 p.m. followed by Teutopolis against Robinson Nuttall at 7:30.

The winners will meet Monday for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham fell in the Taylorville Regional to Mount Zion, 29-14 Thursday evening.

The game was put in the win column early for Mount Zion as the squad ran out to a 16-0 lead on the Mustangs.

Mount Zion led 24-5 at halftime.

Effingham was led by Arabella Barnhart with five points and Cloie Bailey with four.

In the second game, Taylorville was a 33-28 winner over Mattoon.

Mount Zion and Taylorville will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday for the regional championship.
