 Junior High Girls Eighth-Grade Basketball Regionals — December 2 Results

Effingham competed in the Class 8-4A Taylorville Girls Basketball Regional Tuesday evening and captured a victory.

The Mustangs downed Rochester 30-17. EJHS held an 8-0 opening quarter lead and Bailey scored five points. The lead went to 12-3 at halftime as Barnhart and Bailey both put in three points each.

Effingham continued on with a 16-14 second half.

Bailey finished with 12 points while Barnhart added nine.

The Mustangs advance to face Mount Zion Thursday at 5 p.m.

In the second game, Mattoon easily won over Charleston 51-10. Taylorville downed Stephen Decatur 49-23 in the final game of the evening.

Mattoon and Taylorville will meet Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

In the lone contest played Tuesday evening at the St. Michael Regional, Mattoon St. John’s was a 33-19 winner over Ramsey.

The second contest, Neoga vs. Findlay Okaw Valley will be contested Wednesday.

Mattoon St. John’s advances to meet Sigel St. Michael Thursday at 6 p.m. followed by Pana Sacred Heart against the winner of the Neoga vs. Findlay Okaw Valley game at 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Paris Crestwood won the opener at the St. Anthony Regional by beating Casey-Westfield Roosevelt 35-26.

In the second game, Cumberland downed Stewardson-Strasburg, 32-23.

Crestwood advances to meet St. Anthony at 6 p.m. Thursday while Cumberland will now face Casey-Westfield at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Class 8-2A South Central Regional

South Central opened the evening with a 36-19 win over North Clay.

South Central took a 6-1 opening quarter lead and led 16-7 at halftime.

The winners then had a 20-13 second half. Moriah Logsdon led the way in scoring with 12 points while Alexa Gile added eight.

In the second contest, Albion downed Brownstown/St. Elmo by a 25-3 count.

Albion held an 11-3 opening quarter lead and led 18-3 at halftime. The winners finished with a 15-0 second half.

A. Bierman led Albion with 13 points while Henton added nine.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Kara Stone with three points.

The final win of the evening went to Altamont over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-20.

Altamont moved into an 8-1 opening quarter lead but CHBC came back with a 7-2 second quarter to pull within 10-8 at halftime. CHBC then moved into a 13-12 lead in the third quarter.

But here came Altamont with a 13-7 final period run to pull out the victory. Blaire Suckow led the way with 10 points while Teegan Burrus added seven.

Reece Vaughn and Valentina Doty had seven each for CHBC.
