MATTOON — Effingham High School pounded Mattoon to the tune of 71-27 in girls basketball competition Tuesday evening.
The Hearts ran out to a 25-2 opening quarter lead as Alyssa Martin scored 17 of her 18 total points by hitting seven regular field goals and a three-pointer. Averie Wolfe added seven points in the quarter.
The Hearts had a 27-15 second quarter to lead 52-17 at halftime.
EHS had three players hit double digits. Wolfe led the way with 19 points on nine field goals. Martin added 18 while McKenzie Love finished with 12.
Mattoon was led by Larson with eight.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis finished with a 30-15 second half run to claim a 65-56 win over Mount Vernon Tuesday evening.
The Wooden Shoes had a 19-15 opening quarter lead as Malea Helmink connected on two baskets and was four of six at the line for eight points while Anna Probst hit a three-pointer.
The Shoes and Rams played to a 16-16 second period. Kelsey Niemerg and An. Probst hit a three-pointer each while Jersey Gaddis added six points.
T-town then had a 30-25 second half to put the contest away.
Four players hit double figures for the Shoes. Helmink led the way with 17 points on five field goals and seven free throws. Niemerg added 15 while Gaddis chipped in with 13 and An. Probst added 12.
Helmink pulled down 11 rebounds while Kelsey Niemerg had eight. Gaddis had four steals. Helmink and Allie Ruholl had two assists each.

At Dieterich
Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville held an 18-14 opening quarter lead on Dieterich and led 32-27 at halftime. But Dieterich put together a big scoring third quarter, outdistancing OPH by a 25-4 count. The Maroons then finished with a 62-42 win Tuesday evening.
Addison Miller led the way with 23 points on seven field goals and nine of nine at the line. Lena Goebel chipped in with 16 on seven field goals and two free throws.
Miller also led in rebounds with 10 and Goebel added seven. Goebel led in assists with three and steals with four. Miller had a blocked shot.
