Effingham High School played host to Casey-Westfield and the Hearts fell by a 55-48 tally Tuesday evening in boys basketball in a game heard on 979XFM.
The Warriors edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead then pushed that to 27-18 at halftime.
EHS remained close with three-pointers from Brady McDaniel and Jenner Pals and four points from Jake Niebrugge.
Casey-Westfield was led by Leighton Jones with 11 points in the second period.
Casey-Westfield had a 16-12 third quarter run to lead 43-30. Jackson Julius knocked in six points.
In the final period, the Hearts came back with an 18-12 final period run as Pals scored on three regular baskets and a three-pointer for nine while Cannon Bockhorn knocked in two three-pointers and a free throw for seven. But the Hearts couldn’t make up the deficit.
Jones led Casey-Westfield with 24 points on 10 field goals and three of three at the line. He hit one three-pointer. Jackson High chipped in with 13 connecting on four baskets, one three-pointer.
Effingham’s Pals led the way with 14 points on six field goals that included two three-pointers.
EHS hit only 38.8 percent from the field while Casey-Westfield was 56-8 percent.
