 North Clay Will Face Casey-Westfield Tonight For Cumberland Tourney Title

TOLEDO — North Clay and Casey-Westfield will meet for the championship of the Cumberland Boys Turkey Tournament tonight.

The two teams won Friday before Saturday competition was halted by snow.

In Friday’s contests, Newton was a winner in the opener 56-29 over Okaw Valley.

Newton held a 30-14 halftime lead and never looked back. The Eagles were led by Lance Volk with 13 points and Kody Bergbower with 10.

In the next game, Vandalia downed Marshall 57-44.

The third contest went to Casey-Westfield over Cumberland 44-39.

Casey-Westfield moved into a 12-9 opening quarter lead and led 24-19 at halftime. Cumberland came back within 32-29 going into the final period, but the Warriors held off the challenge.

Cumberland was led by Reed Miller with 13 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer.

The final game went to North Clay against Dieterich, 52-43.

Dieterich held a 13-11 opening quarter lead and still led at halftime 30-25. Bryce Bohnhoff connected on six points in the second period and had eight at halftime. Jackson Icenogle hit two three-pointers and had eight at halftime.

Here came North Clay in the third period with a whopping 21-4 run. The Cardinals’ Carder Walden hit a three-pointer, a regular basket and was four of four at the line for nine points while Cody Zimdars hit for six points.

Dieterich came back in the final period but it was too little, too late.

Walden scored 18 for the winners with six field goals, one a three-pointers and five of five at the line. Cody Zimdars chipped in with 10.

Dieterich was led by Bohnhoff and Icenogle with 12 4each. Bohnhoff hit six regular baskets while Icenogle hit five baskets, two from beyond the acc.

North Clay and Casey-Westfield meet tonight after the Cumberland girls regular season game, for the championship.
