 Effingham, Newton Pick UP Bob Kerans Tourney victories

NEWTON — Effingham and Newton picked up victories Wednesday evening in the Bob Kerans Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Hearts opened the evening by pounding Flora 66-15.

EHS held a 22-4 opening quarter lead and led 44-4 at halftime.

Alyssa Martin led EHS in scoring with 16 points while McKenzie Love and Averie Wolf added 10 each.

In the second contest, host Newton won over Altamont by a 50-24 tally.

The Eagles stepped out to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and led 30-8 at halftime.

Alani Bergbower was the lone player in the contest in double figures with 13 on five field goals that included three trifectas.

Altamont was led by Aldrich with eight points.
