The Sunrise Rotary Club recently welcomed Amy Ellis with CEFS Meals on Wheels for an update following the devastating fire at Deb’s Catering. Amy shared how the community immediately stepped up—restaurants across every town they serve jumped in to ensure not a single meal was missed. Volunteers and donations have continued to pour in, reflecting the strong compassion of our region.
Meals on Wheels prepares 500–600 meals daily and is currently managing a waitlist of more than 50 seniors. Amy announced that the program will return to full operation on November 12, with Deb’s Catering temporarily preparing meals out of the Effingham Technology Center.
Tiffany Wasson also addressed members, noting that their team began prepping again on Monday, November 10. While Deb’s Catering, The Giving Plate, and their vending services remain paused, the team is dedicated to keeping Meals on Wheels running smoothly—even while operating from a smaller kitchen space with borrowed refrigeration and a whole lot of community support.
This effort exemplifies what Effingham County is known for: neighbors helping neighbors.
