PARIS — Teutopolis High School captured its second victory in the North American Lighting Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.
The Wooden Shoes downed Richland County, Olney by a 50-37 count.
The two teams were tied at 9-9 after the opening quarter. Gabby Tegeler scored two baskets to lead the Shoes.
In the second period, T-town went on a 19-9 tear to lead 28-18 at halftime.
The Shoes’ Malea Helmink connected on three baskets for six points while Anna Probst hit a basket and was three of three at the line for five points.
Helmink continued on with her hot scoring, hitting four baskets in the third quarter 11-9 run and T-town moved into a 39-27 lead going into the final quarter.
T-town then had an 11-10 final period edge for the victory.
Helmink had a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds. She also had one assist and one steal.
Anna Probst finished with nine points, one steal and one assist. Jersey Gaddis and Gabby Tegeler had one assist each while Kailyn Gaddis and Sophia Martin had one steal each.
In Pool A play, Teutopolis finished with a 2-0 record followed by Olney 1-1 and Charleston 0-2. In Pool B action, Paris has a 2-0 record followed by Danville 1-1 and Terre Haute North 0-2.
The tournament continues Saturday. Teutopolis will meet Danville at 10 a.m. followed by Olney against Paris at 11:30 and Charleston meeting Terre Haute North at 1 p.m.
The consolation championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. with third place at 2:30 p.m. and the championship at 4 p.m.
