Ricardo J. “Rick” Roop, 67, of rural Effingham, passed away peacefully at his home on November 15, 2025.
Born on November 15, 1958 in Normal, Illinois, he was the oldest son of Ronald Clyde Roop and Sandra Joanna (Mitchell) Roop-Holt, both of whom preceded him in death. Rick lived a life defined by a deep love for his family and the outdoors. Rick proudly served in and retired from the United States Army, a chapter of his life he carried with quiet pride. He later worked for the State of Ill where he retired from the Dept of Agriculture. He found peace in the outdoors, especially through hunting and fishing, and cherished time spent collecting coins and riding motorcycles with his wife and close friends.
Rick’s greatest source of pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Stumeier-Roop; his son, Joshua Roop; his granddaughter, Lyric Roop, 2 brothers and a sister.
Rick will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, whose generous spirit touched all who knew him. His life will be reflected in the memories shared by family and friends.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.
