Effingham St. Anthony downed Casey-Westfield in both seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball competition Tuesday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 36-31. St. Anthony ran out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead and led 22-15 at halftime. Casey-Westfield came back to outscore the Bullpups 16-14 in the second half but the Bullpups had that big scoring opening half.

Three St. Anthony players finished with eight points each. James Dust, Nash Hoene and Ryan Wohltman. The Bullpups are 5-0 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony ran out to a 15-2 opening quarter lead but Casey-Westfield battled back to pull within 21-16 at halftime. St. Anthony then had a 13-2 final period.

Having led the winners with 12 points while Bales chipped in with nine. St. Anthony improved to 4-1.

At Effingham

Mount Zion came calling and captured the eighth-grade victory by a 57-50 tally Tuesday evening.

The two teams were tied at 7-7 after the first quarter. Mount Zion then went on a 21-12 second quarter run to lead 28-19 at halftime.

Effingham had a 32-29 second half but it was too little to overcome that opening half.

The Mustangs were led by Deek Thompson with 25 points and Calvin Beck with eight.

There were no seventh-grade results.

At Effingham

Effingham Sacred Heart captured a big victory over Windsor in eighth-grade action but fell in the seventh-grade contest Tuesday evening.

Windsor won the seventh-grade game, 33-17. Windsor held a 12-9 halftime lead then had a 12-4 third quarter run.

Jaiden King led the winners with 26 points.

Sacred Heart was led by Teddy Jansen with nine points.

In eighth-grade competition, Sacred Heart pounded Windsor, 65-5.

The Shamrocks held a 28-3 halftime lead. Three players hit double figures. Bryce Hayes led the way with 17 while Gabe Traub had 14 and Chris Kenter 2.

Windsor was led by Wilborn with three.
