Stewardson Trinity Lutheran competed in the Lutheran State Volleyball Tournament in Collinsville and Edwardsville last weekend.
Fourteen teams competed in the tourney. Trinity Lutheran won its pool.
They played Belleville in pool play and in bracket play and lost to Yorkville in the championship game.
“This was the team we beat in the championship match last year,” said Coach Tammy Manhart. “They were a very talented team with many returning players from last year.
“My girls play so well all weekend, dominating in all matches but the championship match. They were a much bigger team than us, so I think there were a lot of nerves at the start of the championship match. We did not play like we had been playing all weekend until a few points into the second set.
“The second set was very completive, and we almost pulled it out. I thought if we could win that second set it was anyone’s ball game. We fell short losing that set 25-23.
“I am so proud of all my girls and the team that they have become in just a few games. This is a very short season with only 14 games. I am super excited to see what the spring season holds for our team.
“We had three players make the all tourney team, more than any other team, and those were Gia Bostedo, Cora Reed and Maddy Manhart.”
