 St. Anthony’s Isabella Keller Second At Class 1A State Cross Country Meet, Area Runners Finish Well

PEORIA — Effingham St. Anthony’s Isabella Keller claimed second place at the Class 1A State Cross Country Meet Saturday at Detweiler Park.

Keller crossed the finish line in 16:06.58.

Winning the girls meet was Sunny Weber of Sandwich in 15:54.4, which is a new class record.

Winnebago won the team title with Shelbyville in second.

The Bulldogs of St. Anthony finished 13th as a team. Along with Keller were Aubrey Denning 13th in 17:13.40, Emeline Wines 96th in 19:10.40, Nora Niebrugge 201st in 21:09.73, Taylor Denning 236th in 23:13.09 and Nancy Ruholl 240th in 23:52.77.

The only other area girl competing was Newton High School’s Layna Marshall who finished 69th in 18:45.

In the boys meet, Eureka was the team champion with 151 points.

Chaz Oberkell of Gillespie was the individual champion with a time of 14:32.10.

Cumberland finished 19th as a team with 430 points.

Cameron Roedl took 34th place in 15:23.10. Other Cumberland runners were Gavin Whitaker 120th in 16:13.84, Brett Matusas 143rd in 16:25.78, Damien Chardon 144th in 16:26.10, Aydan Oakley 179th in 16:50.67 and Kade Bradley 216th in 17:32.12.

St. Anthony finished 20th with 444 points.

Julius Ramos took 73rd in 15:47.35, Camden Bloemer 101st in 16:02.89, Oliver Kreke 115th in 16:11.98, Isaac Tays 153rd in 16:31.63, Elijah Whittier 195th in 17:08.87 and Johnny Gannaway 244th in 18:39.45.

Dieterich High School’s Trevor Crutcher ran a personal best time of 15:25 to finish 39th. It is the best ever finish for a Dieterich runner at State.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City’s August Cosart finished 69th in 15:45.

“He ran a great race,” said CHBC Coach Lorton. “There were around 40 kids that finished within a 20 second time frame.”
