A St. Elmo resident was injured in a crash on the Moccasin Road Saturday night.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Office reports a pickup truck driven by 24-year-old Hunter Buff was traveling a short distance east of 150th Street just after 7pm. The pickup left the roadway to the right and struck a culvert. After striking the culvert, the pickup went airborne and overturned. While airborne, the pickup struck the top of a street sign and the cab of the vehicle became separated from the chassis. The unit overturned again before coming to rest off the north side of the roadway, facing southeast.

Buff was airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Rural Med EMS and Altamont Fire Protection District assisted at the scene, as well.
