Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony squared off in girls junior high basketball competition Thursday evening and split victories.

Effingham was a 39-9 winner in the seventh-grade game. The Mustangs ran out to a 13-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Gouchenouer led the way for Effingham with 19 points while Rohr added 11.

St. Anthony was led by E. Johnson with six.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony picked up a 56-25 victory.

The Bullpups moved into a 12-7 opening quarter lead and led 25-17 at halftime.

B. Schultz led the way with 17 points while A. Griffith added 16 for St. Anthony.

Effingham was led by Bierman with six.

At Neoga

Neoga was a winner in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Thursday evening.

Neoga won the seventh-grade contest over Brownstown/St. Elmo, 20-14.

BSE held a 4-2 opening quarter lead and led 10-5 at halftime. Neoga came back with a 9-4 third quarter to tie the score at 14-14 and then held BSE scoreless in the final quarter for the win.

Izzy McNeal led in scoring for the winners with nine.

BSE was led by Ella Lach with seven.

In eighth-grade play, Neoga claimed a 40-18 victory.

Neoga held a 25-8 halftime lead. Bliss Bear led the way in scoring with 21 while Kinsey Bell added eight.

BSE was led by Parker Haslett, Raya Tompkins and MJ Washburn with four each.

Dieterich and Cumberland picked up a victory each during Thursday evening action.

Cumberland was a 34-19 winner in seventh-grade play.

Dieterich claimed the eighth-grade contest, 46-15.
