ARGENTA — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School will be playing for a sectional volleyball championship after winning in Tuesday evening action at the Class 1A Argenta-Oreana Sectional.
The Hatchets took on LeRoy and despatched the Panther in two sets, 25-21, 25-17.
Zaida Wascher and Mya Friese had an ace. Friese also led in kills with 14. Brinlie Durbin led the team in assists with 17. Kendra Hayes had 12 digs. Brooke Schumacher finished with four block assists.
“I’m so, so proud of the girls tonight,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “I didn’t know if they had enough fight in them but boy they like to prove me wrong. We had a strong defensive game and we were really prepared for the tips and soft shots.
“Mya had a stand-out game. She was able to find the floor and move shots around. We blocked well again tonight also. Just a solid game all the way around.”
In the opening match of the evening, Heyworth won over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 25-21, 21-25, 26-24.
Windsor/Stew-Stras and Heyworth will now meet for the sectional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.
The winner will advance to the Heyworth Super-sectional Monday at 6 p.m. to face either Lexington or Cissna Park Co-op. Those two are playing for the Watseka Sectional championship Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

At Trenton
Effingham High School saw its season come to a close at the Class 2A Trenton Wesclin Sectional Tuesday.
The Hearts fell to Columbia, 25-12, 25-18.
“Columbia played an error-free first set,” said EHS Coach Laurie Bohnhoff. “The second set, we had our opportunities to give them a scare. Alyssa Martin had a couple blocks and good swings in the front row. When we gave the ball to Love in a good spot, she was able to go over the top of them. I will give Columbia credit for having multiple really good hitters.
“The seniors have been a spectacular group to coach all year. I will miss them and want to thank them for their contribution to the volleyball program.”
Effingham was led in kills by Mckenzie Love with seven and blocks with three. Berkley Pullen had 11 assists. Camdyn Burgholzer led in digs with eight.
Columbia advances to face Nashville at 6 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship. Nashville downed Belleville Althoff Catholic 25-17, 25-19 Tuesday evening.
