The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Cumberland Road (U.S. 40) in St. Elmo will close for improving the approaches at the railroad crossing. Work will begin Monday, Nov. 3 and is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The closure is necessary to allow Union Pacific to make the repairs and improvements. A detour utilizing Main Street, Fourth Street and Spring Street will be in place.
It will be necessary for motorists to find an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
