The filing period for the 2026 election began Monday.
Effingham County Clerk and Recorder Michelle Kollmann filed for another term on the Republican ticket. Effingham County Treasurer Deb Ruholl also filed for another term as a Republican. Also filing was Travis Buhnerkempe for Sheriff. Incumbent Paul Kuhns is not seeking re-election, and Buhnerkempe is filing for the Republican nomination. He is currently serving as Chief Deputy Sheriff.
Ronald Kelly is running for Effingham County Board from District A as a Republican. Norbert Soltwedel is the current District A board member.
Others who filed Monday were candidates for precinct committeeperson. They include Barry May, a Democrat from Moccasin 2…Chad Berg, a Republican from Douglas 8…Richard French, a Republican from Douglas 12…Shirley Moore, a Republican from Summit 4…Shannon McClurg, a Republican from Douglas 4…Jane Willenborg, a Republican from Summit 1…and Matthew Kuhns, a Republican from Mason Township.
The filing period will run through Monday, November 3.
