Sandra Kay “Sandy” Esker, 70 of Dieterich, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 27, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. A graveside service will be held with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to time of mass, Monday at the church, in the St. Clare Hall. Memorial donations may be given to the Effingham Animal Rescue Sanctuary or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.

Sandy was born on August 9, 1955 in Terre Haute, the daughter of Roy and Delores (Thompson) Woodsmall. She married Steve Esker on May 20, 1993. Sandy held a Master’s Degree in Education and in 2022, Sandy announced her retirement as the Director of the Eagle’s Nest Preschool, after faithfully serving for 16 years. She had the heart of a true teacher and her passion was working with little kids.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Steve; mother, Delores Woodsmall; sister, Sherry (Ron) Lamb; niece, Sally Harrison and great-niece, Harley Harrison; brothers-in-law, Joe (Angie) Esker, Larry (Sue) Esker, and Greg (Rosina) Esker; sisters-in-law, Kathy Wellbaum and Mary Lou Esker.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father; brother-in-law, William “Bill” Esker.
