Effingham City Council members Tuesday reviewed a draft tax levy for the coming fiscal year. Any levy amount would be based on an equalized assessed valuation for the city of just under $479 million dollars.

The Council has brought down the levy in each of the past few years.

Council members have declared properties at 509 West Franklin Avenue and 505 South 3rd Street as dangerous and unsafe, giving the City options as to how to clean up the sites.

The Council granted Sunrise Rotary permission to hold a Halloween parade this Sunday at 2pm. City Police Chief Kurt Davis will be the parade marshal.

Council members discussed how to  regulate vacation and short term rental properties, but took no action on the matter.
