Altamont claimed an opening round victory in the Altamont Soccer Regional Friday.

The Indians hosted Mount Carmel and blanked the Aces 7-0.

“What a beautiful night for soccer,” said Altamont coach Eric Morales. “A 1-0 lead at halftime felt tenuous for us. Although we had the majority of the possession and numerous shots on goal, the only ball that had found the net was Quincy Niermann’s 17th minute goal assisted by Ashton Buchanan.

“After the halftime intermission, however, Mount Carmel’s lack of depth began to show results. Buchanan scored in the 52nd minute with an assist from Juan Fulk and a minute later Buchanan added an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. Thereafter, we got goals from Kaleb Overton and Aiden Rosales and when Cooper Pals’ direct free kick from 30 yards out found the top corner of the net, the scoreboard read 6-0. Andrew Ellersick, with an assist from Micah Tenpenny, closed out the scoring with six minutes remaining in the match.”

The Indians advance to play Teutopolis today at 6:30 p.m.
