 Effingham, South Central, Newton, St. Elmo/Brownstown, Cumberland, St. Anthony Win In Volleyball

Effingham High School handed Altamont a loss in volleyball action Thursday evening.

The Hearts won 25-16, 25-23. Mckenzie Love led in kills with nine. Berkley Pullen had 24 assists and one block. Camdyn Burgholzer, Mara Braun and Mckenzie Love also had one block each. Averie Wolfe and Alyssa Martin had six digs each.

Altamont was led by Abby Wills with two aces, Kimber Sphar with four kills and one block, Riley Rippetoe with one block, Avery Aldrich with four kills and one block, Hope Roedl with 10 digs, Bella Hollinshead with one block and Avery Fleeharty with nine assists.

Effingham won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-20 and claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-10, 25-17.

The Hearts are back in action Saturday at the Pana Tournament.

At Neoga

South Central handed Neoga a loss in two sets Thursday.

The Cougars won 25-12, 25-14 and improved to 10-12.

Sophie Wodtka led the team in assists with 11. Maddie Peddicord had three aces. Zoey Feldhake led in digs with five. Mya Schaal had six kills and one block and Lauren Johnson had one block.

Neoga was led by Emily Frankie with four digs, Chloe Frankie with two assists and four digs, Keeli McKay with two assists, Madelynn Frankie with two kills and three blocks and Malory Henderson with one ace.

The junior varsity Cougars won 25-21, 25-13 and the freshman/sophomore team claimed a victory, 25-13, 25-9.

South Central is 10-4 in junior varsity lay and 12-0-1 in freshman/sophomore action.

At Neoga

At Ramsey

Ramsey played host to Dieterich and sent the Movin’ Maroons home with a loss in three sets.

The Rams won the opener 25-21 but Dieterich came back with a 25-20 win. Ramsey then won the match 25-22.

Dieterich was led by Allie Uthell with two aces and seven blocks, Lydia Wohltman with 10 digs and five kills. Bailey Brmmer and Skylar Russell also had five kills. Aliza Garner led in assists with 12.

Dieterich dropped to 7-17 on the season.

At Ramsey

At Mulberry Grove

St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Mulberry Grove in two sets, 25-17, 25-20 Thursday in each team’s final Egyptian Illini Conference match.

The Eagles improved to 5-0 in conference play and won the regular season title. St. Elmo/Brownstown improved to 14-9 overall.

Presley Williams led the winners in kills with seven. Alivia Claycomb had two aces and two blocks. Madi Miller led the team in assists with 12. Mya Barker had two aces and eight digs.

St. Elmo/Brownstown will be back in action Tuesday at Cumberland.

At Mulberry  Grove

St. Elmo/Brownstown — M. At Marshall

Newton was a winner in both varsity and junior varsity action over Marshall Thursday evening.

The Eagles lost the opener 25-20 but came back in the next two sets, 25-18, 25-19 for the varsity win.

Bierman and Hermann led the Eagles in aces with three each. Schackmann, Bierman and Hermann had eight kills each. Shull led in assists with 16. Hermann had 14 digs while Pitcher led in blocks with two.

Newton improved to 15-11 on the season.

In the junior varsity match, Newton won 29-27, 25-18.

The Eagles will return to play Monday at Teutopolis.

At Marshall

Cumberland captured a varsity win over Martinsville in Thursday evening action.

The Pirates fell in the opening set 25-19 but came back with a 25-20 second set and won the match 27-25.

Mia Holsapple and Hanna Shoemaker had 10 kills each for the Pirates. Alysa Dittamore led in assists with 23.  Sadie Colnar had three blocks. Shoemaker led in aces with three. Madelyn McElravy led in digs with 17.

Martinsville was a winner in the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-19.

At Greenup

At Louisville

Effingham St. Anthony was a winner over North Clay, 25-10, 25-17 in the varsity match Thursday.

Leading the Bulldogs were Reese Hoene with three aces and two blocks, Madelyn Gilmore with 20 assists, Sophia Emmerich with two blocks, Cara Hatton with 15 kills and six digs and Lilly Gannaway with six digs.

The Bulldogs are  now 23-5 on the season and 9-0 in the National Trail Conference.

In junior varsity, North Clay won 25-22, 19-25, 15-9.

The freshman/sophomore match went to St. Anthony, 25-21, 25-22.

St. Anthony will be back in action Monday hosting Vandalia for Senior  Night.

At Louisville
