Two powerful tennis teams met as Effingham St. Anthony played host to Teutopolis Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes edged St. Anthony, 5-4.
The Wooden Shoes nabbed four singles matches as Adi Davidson won at No. 3 by a 6-2, 6-3 count while Avery Probst took No. 4, 6-3, 6-4. Allie Ruholl downed her opponent at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2 and Lily Stortzum was a winner at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2.
St. Anthony’s Mia Kinkelaar won the top spot in singles with a tough 6-7 (3), 6-3, 11-9 victory. Liv Hoene claimed the No. 2 position, 6-1, 7-5. The Wooden Shoes led 4-2 going into doubles play.
In doubles action, the Bulldogs’ Kinkelaar and Ellie Link combined to win 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot while Hoene and Trupiano claimed the No. 2 win, 6-1, 6-1.
But the Wooden Shoes took the No. 3 position as Probst and Cecilia Donsbach combined to win 6-3, 6-0 and claim the team victory.
