 St. Anthony First In Silver Flight, WSS, BSE Claim Varsity Wins, Newton, S. Central Win Frosh/Soph Tourneys

St.  Anthony finished in first place in the Silver Flight at the Mahomet-Seymour Volleyball Invitational.

St. Anthony High School finished first in the Silver Flight at the Mahomet-Seymour Volleyball Invitational Saturday.

The Bulldogs defeated Fieldcrest, 25-20, 25-22 and Champaign Central 25-20, 25-20. They lost to Mahomet-Seymour 25-21, 25-13.

They came back to defeat Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 25-15, 25-18 and downed Geneseo 25-23, 16-25, 15-13.

Leading the way through the tournament was Cara Hatton with a total of 44 digs and five blocks, Madelyn Gilmore with 92 assists, Sophia Emmerich with five blocks and Reese Hoene with 27 kills.

St. Anthony is now 20-5 on the season and returns to action today against Dieterich.

Mahomet-Seymour Invitational

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Teutopolis and claimed the varsity and junior varsity wins Friday.

In varsity competition, the Hatchets won 25-15, 25-15 to improve to 16-7 on the season.

Brinlie Durbin had two aces, 11 assists and 10 digs. Myra Friese led in kills with 10. Zoey Conder had four block assists.

Teutopolis was led by Brittany Swingler with seven assists, Gabby Tegler with four kills, Ella Tarter with three points and Marie Zumbahlen with nine digs. The Shoes dropped to 15-7.

“Comparing how we played them before to tonight, we have improved in so many areas,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “We’ve bene working hard on our blocking and tonight it showed. We were able to work around the block better and Zaida has really settled into her OH position. I know t-town has some out with injuries and had another JV player go down tonight. We don’t wish that for anyone and hope they all have speedy recoveries.”

WSS won the junior varsity match,20-25, 25-18, 25-23 and is 14-2. T-town dropped to 13-2.

In the freshman match, T-town was a winner, 25-13, 25-14 and improved to 15-3-2. WSS fell to 8-6-3.

Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a Friday match over North Clay.

BSE was a winner 25-15, 25-17. North Clay dropped to 3-5 in the National Trail Conference, 7-18 overall.

In the junior varsity match, Brownstown/St. Elmo won 13-25, 25-20, 15-12. In freshman play, North Clay was a winner 25-18, 25-18.

 

At Teutopolis

Newton won the championship of the Teutopolis Freshman/Sophomore Tournament Saturday.

In Pool 1, T-town defeated St. Anthony 25-21, 25-11; Dieterich defeated St. Anthony, 25-14, 25-18 and T-town defeated Dieteich 25-15, 25-6.

In Pool 2, Newton defeated Effingham, 25-16, 25-18; Newton defeated Patoka, 25-14, 25-22 and Effingham defeated Patoka, 25-15, 25-10.

In the crossover matches, Effingham defeated St. Anthony, 25-20, 25-14 and Teutopolis, 25-16, 26-24 while Dieterich defeated Patoka 25-11, 26-24 and Newton defeated Dieterich 25-12, 25-23.

Teutopolis defeated Dieterich 23-25, 25-19, 15-13 in the consolation match.

In the championship match, Newton defeated Effingham 25-17, 25-18 for the title.

At St. Elmo

South Central took home the championship at the St. Elmo/Brownstown Freshman/Sophomore Tournament Saturday.

South Central defeated Ramsey, 25-15, 25-23, St. E.mo/Brownstown, 25-15, 25-6 and North Clay 25-16, 25-8.

Addy Ruholl, Emmie Ruholl and Kennah Hiestand were selected for the All-Tournament team. Hiestand was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.

South Central won the St. Elmo/Brownstown Freshman/Sophomore Tournament.
