 St. A, EHS, Teutopolis Boys Golf Teams Qualify For Sectional Play, WSS Player Advances

Effingham St. Anthony and Effingham qualified for sectional play after the two teams finished first and second at their own Class 2A Golf Regional Wednesday at the Effingham Country Club.

The Bulldogs won the regional title with 291 points followed by Effingham 302, Richland County, Olney 302, Mount Zion 303, Charleston 326, Red Hill/Lawrenceville 326, Paris 366 and Mattoon 398.

Olney’s Ayden Nealis was medalist with a 70.

Competing for St. Anthony were Logan Gowin 71, Maddux Clark 72, Jameson McAllaster 72, Drake Brown 76, Alec Hakman 77 and Briggs Whitley 80.

Effingham’s competitors were Jackson Swingler 73, Jude Traub 75, Leo Wyckoff 75, Cannon Bockhorn 79, Brody Boehm 80 and Owen Nuxoll 86.

Along with St. Anthony and Effingham qualifying as a team was Olney.

Individuals advancing were Carson Oliver (Mount Zion) 71, Connor Graves (Mount Zion) 75, Tommy Whitley (Mount Zion) 77, Hudson  Meister (Charleston) 77, Nox Gray (Red Hill/Lawrenceville) 79, Wade Putnam I (Mount Zion) 80, Bradley Buchanon (Red Hill/Lawrenceville) 80, Dylan Wey (Charleston) 82, Aidan Barnett (Mount Zion) 83 and Kirk Swenson (Charleston) 83.

Those qualifying advance to the Edwardsville Sectional at Oak Brook Golf Course Monday, October 6.

 

At Mount Vernon

Teutopolis claimed the team championship of the Hamilton County Regional Wednesday for the first time in school history.

The Wooden Shoes finished with a 292 followed by Mount Carmel 315, McLeansboro (Hamilton County) 316, Newton 326, Edwards County (Albion) 327, Carmi-White County 331, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield 340, Robinson 346, Fairfield 347, Oblong 347, Flora 360 and Dieterich 382.

T-town’s Coen Pennington was match medalist with a 69. Also competing for the Shoes were Isaac Weber 70 who finished second, Owen Kremer 75 who tied for fourth, Kade Pennington 78, Landyn Thoele 84 and Matthew Habing 85.

Advancing as individuals were Newton’s Michael Kennedy, Jack James and Nolen Cleaver, Carmi-White County’s Maxon O’Daniel, Cisney’s Hagen Howard, Edwards County’s Walker Sledge and Mason Smiley and Oblong’s Riley Blank.

Those qualifying advance to the Teutopolis Sectional Monday, October 6 at the Effingham Country Club.

 

At Carlyle

Altamont competed in the Class 1A Carlyle Regional at Governors Run Wednesday.

Competing for the Indians were Mason Schaub 85,  Evan Elam 92, Joel Bauer 99, Henry Niermann 100, Harrison Lash 102 and Kamryn Wolfert 108.

Glen Carbon Father McGivney won the team championship with a 313 followed by Staunton 320, Litchfield 324, Carlyle 341, Maryville Christian 341, Sandoval 342, Hillsboro 344, Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran 346, Ramsey 350, Vandalia 355, Greenville 367, Altamont 376, Mount Olive 394, Gillespie 419 and Brussels 442. Roxana had three players competing.

The cut for sectionals was a score of 83.

 

At Macon

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg competed at the Class 1A Macon Meridian Regional Wednesday.

WSS’ Jacob Vonderheide, a junior, advanced as an individual.

Pana won the team title with 309 followed by Clinton 332, Monticello 333, Decatur St. Teresa 335, Windsor 338, Arcola 343,  Auburn 344, Sullivan 350, Moweaqua Central A&M 353, Macon Meridian 356, Bethany Okaw Valley 369, Shelbyville 401, Virden North Mac 408 and Cerro Gordo 444.

Those advancing will head to the Jacksonville Route Sectional Monday, October 6.
