A local woman has been hospitalized after the scooter she was riding was struck by a golf cart.
26-year-old Mia Hayden of Effingham was traveling in the bike lane on Maple Street near the intersection with Holiday Drive when the incident occurred about 11:20pm Sunday. The golf cart reportedly left the scene.
Hayden was taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana for further treatment.
Effingham City Police Chief Kurt Davis said Monday morning that the case is being turned over to the Illinois State Police for further investigation of potential suspects in the matter.
