 National Athletic Hall of Fame Announces 2025 Officials Category Inductees

The National Athletic Hall of Fame announces the induction of Jim Maroon, Ted Knapp and Terry Chapman (posthumously) into the Officials Category of the Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Jim Maroon began his IHSA officiating career in boys’ basketball during the 1960s and later expanded into girls’ basketball. Over more than 30 years, he officiated many conference tournaments, numerous IHSA regional and sectional conetsts, two IHSA State tournament games and the IBCA  All-Star Game.

Ted Knapp launched his IHSA officiating career in 1970. Over 56 years, he has served across multiple sports: Basketball (56 years), Baseball (6 years), Football (46 years) and Softball (42 years). He is also a Certified Clinician in Basketball, Football and Softball.

Terry Hapman (posthumously) devoted 43 years to IHSA athletics beginning in 1982. A certified boys’ and girls’ basketball official, Chapman worked across Class 1A, 2A and 3A levels, with 17 years of postseason assignments that included multiple IHSA State Tournaments. He was also a registered volleyball official for 17 years and a football official for two years.

Their contributions have strengthened the foundation of athletics while inspiring generations of athletes and officials within their communities.

The 2025 Induction Ceremony will be held Friday, November 21 at the Teutopolis Banquet Hall in Teutopolis.
