John Rattaro passed away on September 8, 2025, age 48, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with Pastor Jeff Morrison officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the veteran’s section of Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born on October 26, 1976 in Burlingame, CA, John is survived by his mother, Pam Ketcik, and his father, Ron Rattaro and his step-mother, Karyn. Also surviving are his brother Jason Rattaro and his sisters, Reyanna Rattaro and Deena Gilbert and her husband Josh and their children, Jordan and Jake. He sadly leaves his fiancé Heather Miller and aunts, uncles and many cousins.
John was proud to be a member of the Army National Guard serving in Iraq. When he returned home, he was always with family and friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be truly missed by all. From the time of toy cars and trucks to owning the real thing, John loved machinery. He enjoyed hunting deer every fall and was a good woodworker. He was always helping friends and entertaining them.
