 All Current Effingham Golf Cart Permits Expire September 30th

All current 2024-2025 golf cart permits will expire at midnight on September 30, 2025. Online renewals will begin Monday, September 15th. In-person renewals will be issued beginning Friday, September 26th, at 8:00 a.m. at Effingham Police Department, 110 S. 3rd Street, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

• September 15, 2025:

o Online renewal available at https://www.effinghamil.com/renew-a-golf-cart-permit/

• September 26, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.:

o In-person renewal applications will be accepted

o Payment for all previously submitted online renewals will be accepted in-person

• September 30, 2025:

o All 2024-2025 permits become invalid at midnight (green)

• October 1, 2025:

o New 2025-2026 permits must be displayed on golf carts (orange)

To avoid longer waiting times we encourage you to electronically submit your renewal application online at the City of Effingham’s website beginning Monday, September 15, 2025; however, you will need to pay in person and receive your renewal sticker on or after September 26th. Your application will not be approved until full payment is made in person and you have received your renewal sticker.

If you submit your renewal application online prior to September 26th, you will need to bring a check, money order, or cash for the sticker fee to Effingham Police Department on or after September 26th during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, to receive your sticker. In-person applications will only be available on or after September 26, 2025.

• Items needed to renew:
o Completed renewal application
o Old permit number
o Valid Driver’s License
o Current proof of insurance
o New signed liability waiver

A renewal application may only be used if the golf cart has already been registered with Effingham Police Department for 2024-2025 and still has all required safety features installed. A safety inspection for the golf cart is not required under the renewal application process if the conditions are met.
