PARIS — Cumberland took second in the boys meet while Newton was second in the girls meet at the Doc Acklin Cross Country Invitationals Saturday.
In the boys meet, Charleston was the team champion with 72 points followed by Cumberland 84, Paris 94, St. Joseph-Ogden 114, Broadlands Heritage 165, Danville 214, Hoopeston Area 214, Dieterich 230, Robinson 237, Effingham 250, Chrisman 303, Marshall 321, Casey-Westfield 322, Teutopolis 339, Newton 340, Oblong 458 and Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin 475.
Winning the boys meet was Harrison Hayes of Paris with a time of 15:53.57.
Dieterich’s Trevor Crutcher finished second in 16:04.79 while Effingham’s Alex Gordon was third in 16:22.41. Cumberland’s Colby Roedl finished fifth in 17:01.99.
In the girls meet, St. Joseph-Ogden won the team title with 38 points followed by Newton 62, Effingham 78, Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin 127, Charleston 143, Robinson 152, Dieterich 185, Hoopeston Area 210, Tuscola 215, Neoga 221 and Teutopolis 268.
Molly Farrell of Marshall won the three mile run with a time of 18:54.07 minutes. Newton’s Layna Marshall was the local runner who finished eighth in 20:34.81 and Heather Bergbower, also from Newton, finished 10th in 20:50.44.
