VANDALIA — Effingham St. Anthony and Vandalia opened the high school soccer season with a 1-1 tie Monday.
“Our 2025 season has started and the first game is on the record,” said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. “We created a lot of opportunities and they only scored on a crazy bounce.
“Issac Faller led our defense very well and helped on our attack. Michael Wright created many opportunities in wing and in corners.
“Graham Miller scored a great goal and we should have had a penalty at the end, but that’s the way it goes.
“I would also like to thank Noah Jansen, Ronan Bailey and Mason Jones for their hard work on the attack, Ike Daiber, Bryn Bartimus and Eli Hiatt for their hard work in the defense and Alec Koester and Michael Fearday for their contributions in both parts of the game.
“It was a great effort from everyone and I can see the pieces for what is to come.”
At Hillsboro
Altamont had its season opener at Hillsboro and fell to the homestanders by a 5-0 count Monday.
“Our junior varsity played as well taking the win 3-1,” said Altamont coach Eric Morales. “We had two goals from Micah Tennpenny and a goal from Landen Parker.”
