It only took one week to gain State approval of an expansion of the Effingham City/County/Teutopolis Enterprise Zone.

City Economic Development Specialist Sasha Althoff said the one square mile Zone involves 170 acres of residential area as well as commercial property.

The expanded zone involves area along Heritage Avenue where Effingham plans some residential development, but includes territory as far east as Teutopolis where Ruholl Trailer Sales is expanding. Althoff said the project eventually involved areas where redevelopment is occurring, but with no incentives to develop.

The additions to the Zone needed approval by the Effingham City Council, Effingham County Board, and Teutopolis Village Board before it was submitted to the State.

Various incentives including tax breaks are available to those who develop in the Zone.
