CENTRALIA — The South Central Cougars rallied from a four-run deficit but couldn’t close the gap as they fell 8-7 to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in high school baseball action Wednesday.

The Cougars got on board in the top of the first when Ryker Dodson singled to score Chase Guerrettaz. South Central added two more runs after a bases-loaded hit by pitch and a wild pitch to take a 3-0 lead.

The Stallions tied the game in the bottom of the second but the Cougars responded as Sebastion Kruger hit an RBI double to move them into a 4-3 lead.

But CORL blew the game open, scoring four runs in the third and one in the fifth to take an 8-4 lead. However South Central didn’t go away quietly, after scoring a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to cut the deficit to one.

With two outs in the seventh, the Cougars put the tying run on but couldn’t bring him home and fell 8-7.

The game was the season-opener for the Cougars who will be back in action Saturday facing Woodlawn in a doubleheader.
