Calvin Beck went six innings, allowing only one hit and two walks as Effingham downed Mattoon, 5-2 Wednesday in junior high baseball competition.
Beck kept the Wildcats off the bases with 10 strikeouts. Deek Thompson came on to finish out the final inning, striking out two of the three batters.
The Mustangs had five hits and Mattoon helped with four errors. Kael Koeberlein had two singles and two RBI while Beck added two singles. Thompson had an RBI.

At Louisville
Dieterich and North Clay finished with six hits each, but the Roadrunners took advantage of nine walks and three North Clay errors for an 8-2 victory Wednesday.
Dieterich pushed into a 2-0 opening inning lead and tallied two more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth around single runs in the second and third.
Chase Bohnhoff went the distance on the mound, giving up two runs on six hits, one walk while striking out six.
Reed Funneman had a single and two RBI for the winners while Caleb Stortzum added a single and an RBI. Chase Bohnhoff, Nolan Nussmeyer, Colten Keck and Nolan Gipson had a single each.
At Louisville

At Pana
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City outhit Pana by a 10-7 count but ended up on the wrong end of a 5-3 score Wednesday.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first. Pana took a 3-1 lead in the second and never looked back.
Curtis Bethel led the Bobcats in hitting with three singles while Brody Cox and Luke Roadarmel had two singles each. Tyce Kircher had the lone RBI with a single.
“Even though it was a tough loss, it was awesome to see our bats come alive today,” said CHBC Coach John Brown. “Curtis, Brody and Luke all had fantastic games. Curtis is a rock on defense and he’s really starting to hit for us. Brody is our leader and he showed it on the mound and at the plate. And Luke Roadarmel was amazing on the mound and at the plate. He’s always up for the challenge.
“We have more work before us but our young men had a great day out there.”
CHBC will host Altamont Lutheran today.
