MATTOON — Effingham Junior High School picked up its fifth victory with no losses in downing Mattoon, 19-6 in six innings Wednesday.

The Mustangs trailed 1-0 after the first inning and 4-1 after two. But they came back with a four-run third and never looked back.

Two players had three hits each as Effingham finished with 19. Anna Gouchenouer had a single, double, triple and three RBI while Madalyn Hoffman had two singles, a double and three RBI. Tinley Patton chipped in with a double, triple and three RBI while Liv Lauritzen added a single and double. Mia Hartke finished with two singles. Miley Wilson added a single and two RBI while Mackynzie Hites, Lillian Weishaar and Kendyl Smith had a single and an RBI each.

Smith tossed the victory, allowing six runs on nine hits, one walk while striking out 11.

The Mustangs are now 5-0 and return to action today with a 4:15 p.m. contest at Centralia.

South Central ran out to a 12-0 opening inning lead and never looke back in an 18-0 victory over North Clay (Louisville) Wednesday.

Skylar Webster finished with a no-hitter in three innings. She did not give up a walk and struck out eight of the nine batters she faced over the three innings.

The Falcons finished with 12 hits. Rylan Williams had a single, triple and five RBI while Webster had a single, double and four RBI. Claire Chasteen added two singles and two RBI while Lexy Garrett had two singles. Bella McDowell, Violet Skibinski, Jayda Neilson and Rya Sidwell had a single and an RBI each.

Shelbyville handed Effingham St. Anthony a 20-2 loss in five innings Wednesday.

The Rams held a 7-0 opening inning lead. They added on four in the fourth and finished the game in the fifth with eight more runs.

St. Anthony’s two runs came in the third. The Bullpups had three hits led by Reagan Niebrugge with a triple and an RBI. Mary Hoke had a single and an RBI and Taylor Huebner a single.
