Sue Schultheis, 78, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to either the TEF (Teutopolis Educational Foundation) or the Effingham County Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Sue was born on May 27, 1947, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois the daughter of Mary Louise and Elbert Morris Leighty. She married David Schultheis, also of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, on March 8, 1969.
Sue was very involved with her family and the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Teutopolis, Illinois. She was a teacher in Effingham and Teutopolis for many years and much enjoyed teaching and helping her students. It was a very rewarding career for her. She was a true lover of animals and owned many cats and dogs over her lifetime. She was an avid reader, loved Disney and enjoyed being outside to her final days. She also enjoyed spending time with the family at their lake lot on Lake Sara. She grew up spending a lot of time on the Wabash River in Mt. Carmel and loved being near the water.
Sue is survived by her husband, David Schultheis of Teutopolis; daughter, Kristi (Matt) Esker of Teutopolis; son, Michael Schultheis of Effingham; grandchildren, Benjamin and Stella Esker of Teutopolis; and her beloved cats, Frosty and Einstein.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her Aunt Maude; her Aunt Beulah; and her daughter, Amy Schultheis.
