Effingham City Council members Tuesday discussed an intergovernmental agreement with IDOT for an 1,100-foot extension of McGrath Avenue in the City Business Park.

The project would provide better access for Stevens Industries’ Effingham location. The project has qualified for a grant of $978,900.

The Council approved a three-year contract with members of Local #209 of the Fraternal Order of Police, covering city police recruits, patrolmen and sergeants. The contract includes wage increases of 5%, 4%, and 4%. Employees will pay 20% of the cost of their health insurance.

Council members also contracted with Civil Design of Effingham for engineering work on reconstruction of Cherry Street from Fayette to Jefferson Avenues for $68,290, and approved a Downtown/Southtown Business Area Redevelopment Program agreement. The agreement is with Chad Hawkins for property at 209 North 4th Street, with the City paying 25% of the rehab cost, or just over $2,100.
