This year tax payers will find an extra insert in their tax bills about Property Fraud Alert. The Effingham County Recorder’s office offers a free online service to protect county residents against
potential property fraud.
Property Fraud Alert is an online subscription service that allows the public to have their names monitored within the Recorder’s office in order to track possible fraudulent recording that affects their property. The subscribers to Property Fraud Alert will be notified when the name they have submitted is used in any recordings within the Effingham County Recorder’s office. Property Fraud Alert does not prevent fraud from happening but it provides an early warning system for property owners to take appropriate action should they determine possible fraudulent activity has taken place.
This service is easy to sign up for and signup options will be listed on the insert.
Protecting consumers’ information and real estate property are top priorities for the Recorder’s office. The best protection against property fraud is being proactive. Michelle Kollmann, Effingham County Clerk & Recorder, encourages property owners to take advantage of this free online service.
