Merle G. Lang, 87, of Stewardson, IL passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 4:47 a.m. at Heartland Nursing Home in Neoga, IL.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to the time of the service at 11:30 a.m. at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth, IL with Reverend Nate Mason officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at Chatsworth Charlotte Cemetery in Chatsworth, IL. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Merle was born on September 12, 1937, in Piper City, IL to Edward and Bertha (Elliot) Lang. He married Pearl Hahn on November 29, 1962, at Calvary Baptist Church in Chatsworth, IL. She survives in Stewardson, IL.

Also surviving are his daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Beitz of Stewardson, IL; grandchildren, Justin Beitz of Oklahoma City, OK and Renee (Kirby) Schiffbauer of Peru, IL; and great grandson, Cade Schiffbauer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl Lang, Calvin Lang, Howard Lang, and Donald Lang; sisters, Elsie Fuoss, Evelyn Ortlepp, Alma Payne, Jean Coyle, Wilma Runyon, Betty Hill, Shirley Edwards and in infancy, Marilyn Lang; and son, Thomas Lang.

Merle attended Chatsworth schools and then answered the call of duty by serving his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. He was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. He worked for Nicholas Homestead in Chatsworth, IL for 47 years. He enjoyed golfing and bus trips with Pearl to see different cities. After retirement, Merle and Pearl moved to Stewardson, Il and were members of the First Baptist Church in Effingham, IL.
