The Effingham Athletic Department runs an Athlete of the Month program every month. Athletes are nominated by coaches based upon the following criteria: Stats, Accomplishments, Character, Coachability, Leadership and Sportsmanship
Nominations are then sent out to ALL high coaches to vote on a winner. We will have 1 male and 1 female winner each month. Winners receive a Treign Athlete of the Month shirt and get recognition via announcements and local media.
May 2025 Winners:
Keagyn Koenig, Fr. — Track & Field
Keagyn took on the ultimate challenge of dual sporting this spring season throwing shot for our track team while also playing a vital role on the softball team. Even during this busy season, she was able to help lock in points at some very vital meets. She won the Apollo Conference breaking the school record in Shot Put, she also was our Sectional Champion in shot, and went on to place 2nd at State as a freshman! She’s an outstanding athlete all around and this season it definitely showed! — Coach Shayna Scott
Wyatt Hayes, Jr. — Baseball
“Wyatt has been a huge part of our team this year. He has been asked to move around in the outfield playing where needed along with having a good season on the mound as a pitcher. Wyatt has been a spark plug at the bottom of our lineup for most of the season but, over the last two weeks made the move to hitting in the top of the lineup. Over the month of may he hit .389 with 16 hits (13 singles, 2 doubles, 1 home run). He also threw 9.1 innings for us in that time frame with zero earned runs and 15 strikeouts.” — Coach Curran McNeely
