 Shelby Board Finalizes Three-Year Contract w/Employees

Shelby County board members Thursday approved a three-year contract with county employees represented by AFSCME.

Board Chairman Tad Mayhall said the contract covers all employees not part of the sheriff’s office. The agreement is retroactive to September 1, 2024.

Board members approved a resolution opposing Illinois House Bill 2827…the Homeschooling Bill. Also approved was a Fiscal 2026 agreement between Shelby County and the U of I Extension office. The Board also approved a supplemental engineering agreement with Civil Design for a structure over Richland Creek for$27,100, as well as a 50/50 agreement between the County and Cold Spring Township for just over $7,000.

The Board approved declaring a side by side seized in a criminal case as surplus property; approved the holiday schedule for 2026 to include Christmas Eve; and approved several appointments, including Kenneth Munds a trustee for the Herrick Fire Protection District; Steve Wempen and Paul Canady to the Airport and Landing Fields Commission; approved Dr. Rachel Lape, Greg Miller, Rosie Shuck, Jim Looft and Jeff Slifer to the County Health Board; and Cynthia Alepra, Greg Miller, Maria Shafer, Annie Fafara and Mark Shanks to the Tourism Committee.
