Richard C. “Duke” Wendling, 69, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 prior to the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Richard was born on May 7, 1956 in Effingham, IL, the son of Robert and Norma (Garbe) Wendling. Dick worked for the Effingham Post Office, World Color Press, and IGA. He also helped his uncles and cousin farm. He was an usher at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Dick enjoyed bowling, throwing darts, hunting, fishing, and boating.
Dick is survived by his mother, Norma Wendling; and siblings, Pam (Wendling) Urfer (husband, Gib), Dennis Wendling, and Jeff Wendling (wife, Vickie).
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wendling; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Myra Garbe and Mr. and Mrs. Louis and Lena Wendling; and aunt, Jean Wendling.
