The 1A State Track meet began on Thursday with several area athletes looking to move on from yesterday’s prelims to the Finals on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium.
From Teutopolis Karson Zerrusen finished 5th in the 110 hurdles and Brant Niebrugge holds the 3rd position in the pole vault as each move on to the finals on Saturday.
Altamont’s Ben Roedl moved on to the finals in three events. He holds the top spot in the triple jump, is 3rd in the long jump, and is one of the 17 qualifiers who all cleared 1.83 meters, six feet, in the high jump.
Hayden Summers, also from Altamont will compete in the 300 hurdles finals as he advanced in 4th place after the preliminaries.
St. Anthony’s Calvin Sudkamp will represent the Bulldogs in the high jump Saturday as he is also one of the 17 to clear 1.83 meters.
Trenton Monnet of Brownstown/St.Elmo finished the prelims in 4th in the shot put and will compete Saturday as well.
There are no prelims in the 3200, Trevor Crutcher will run in the finals representing Dieterich and St. Anthony’s Camden Bloemer will also compete in the race Saturday.
Results for those who will not advance to the finals include:
St. Anthony’s Noah Flaig was 19th in the 800.
Anthony Roley of Teutopolis was 15th and Brock Wendling of Altamont was 21st in the shot put.
Altamont’s 4×400 Relay team of Jacob Johnson, Hayden Bridges, Trent Tedrick, and Hayden Summers finished 19th.
Trevor Crutcher was 20th and August Cosart from Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was 27th in the 1600.
Trenten Monnet from Brownstown/St. Elmo was 29th in the discus.
Cumberland’s Reid Carlen was 11th in the 100 and 20th in the 200. While Logan Gerhart was 42nd in the 300 hurdles.
Neoga’s 4×800 Relay team of Lucas Keller, Jayton Hanfland, Kaden Bryant, Brett Matusus finished 18th.
Newton’s Owen Schackmann was 19th in the 110 hurdles and 36th in the 300 hurdles. Wade Wickham finished 25th in discus and tied for 12th in the pole vault. The 4×800 Relay team of Jackson Sornberger, Parker Harris, Tanner Whitaker, and Hayden Borgic were 19th.
North Clay was represented by Mason Byers who was 20th in the 400.
Effingham’s athletes will compete today in the prelims with hopes of moving on to the finals of the 2A state track meet on Saturday in Charleston.
They include: Maxx Kistler in the 300 hurdles, Alex Gordan in the 800, and Weldon Dunston in the 200.
